Torah Mantle container Restoration

The Torah Mantle container was in a fragile state when it first arrived at the studio. The inner fabric—an exquisite printed cotton—had suffered severe deterioration over time. Large sections were missing, and the remaining fragments had faded and weakened beyond repair. Finding a replacement fabric of the same pattern and texture in any store was simply impossible.

The turning point came through a creative collaboration with my friend, the artist Lena Yzdenikova. After carefully examining the original textile, Lena joined me in the studio to paint several test samples and photograph the surviving design. Drawing inspiration from these fragments, she hand-painted a new piece of cotton fabric that perfectly replicated the intricate leaf pattern and colors of the original.

This meticulous artistic recreation made it possible to complete the restoration faithfully—preserving both the historical authenticity and the aesthetic harmony of the piece.

Today, the Torah Mantle container, together with the Torah Scroll, stands proudly in the display showcase—an embodiment of tradition, craftsmanship, and creative collaboration that bridges the past with the present.
